New York Yankee’s superstar Joe Di Maggio and Marilyn Monroe were married on January 14, 1954.

The newlyweds flew to Japan for their honeymoon on Pan American Airlines where Kashio Aoki, the official steward for precious cargo, shot the only photos of the famous couple aboard that flight, as no press or cameras were allowed onboard.

Aoki kept the photos private for 46 years before deciding to share them with the world and publish the works with re-known art publisher Edward Weston in 2001 in a limited edition of 75 to commemorate the 75th Birthday of Marilyn Monroe.

When the two came off the plane they were greeted by over 250 journalist and paparazzi.

According to DiMaggio, “he had never seen so much excitement, or heard a roar so loud, not even when the Yankees won the World Series”.
