Graham Cox
Graham Cox is a painter of landscapes in the grand manner, giving full rein to his love of mountainous height, steep descent, wide expanse and dreaming distance. He has held 50 Solo Exhibitions since his first in Launceston in 1963 and completed countless commissions for both private and corporate patrons.
His work has been selected to hang in the Wynne Prize on a number of occasions as well as being included in State and Regional Gallery shows and travelling exhibitions. The publications of his book, “Graham Cox, the Journey Begins’ by Craftsman House in 1987 has had a major impact on his career, together with media appearances, notably on the ABC Programme. “The 7.30 Report”.
Having spent time in Europe, studying the Masters in 1993, he has now extended his subject matter to include figure composition influenced by classic motifs.
His main body of works continues to concentrate on the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and the Hunter Valley subjects for which he is best known.
Graham was born in Sydney in 1941 and has been a full-time artist since 1977. Apart from some early training with Peter Panow in Sydney (1961-62) he is mainly self taught. A second publication, “The art of Graham Cox”, released in 1998 has been warmly received, enhancing his growing reputation.
